Eng 145/ August 26, 2010

Reading and writing is very important in my life.  I am part of an usher ministry with my church and hold the position of usher secretary.  Because we meet once a month, I have created a newsletter that documents the minutes wich provides the meeting information for those that did not attend.

The most difficult part about academic writing is that sometimes I do not know what the instructor wants.  I had an essay type test in history and the instructor was not clear as to what the "theme" was that we were writing.  I would like to improve everything about my writing.

I read biographies, autobiographies, self help books.  When I read biogrpahies and autobio., I learn how to be inventive and try to make day to day information pertinent and exciting.  I learn how to pick out information that may have an impact on other areas and ideas.

The connection between reading and writing for me is the building of vocabulary.  Discovering the use of setting the story up and giving detail so that the reading can learn.

I am no sure what I would like to research about in this course. I am motivated by real life success stories.  Underdogs fascinate me.

I know of a woman that became a primary school principal after never setting foot in a highs chool.  She got pregnant early and never went to high school, she earned her GED and went on to earn her Bachelor and Master degree.  Her story inspires me.
